KONRAD SIGRUN NOBLE TWO 2007
VITICULTURE Selectively hand harvested over a period of four weeks from
the family owned Waihopai Valley sites. Fruit is picked at an average of 45 Brix. Soil in the
vineyard is of stony silt with loam topsoil and free draining. Canopy Management is vertical shoot
positioning with shoot and crop thinning.
WINEMAKING This wine was made from two parcels of fully botrytised
grapes: 58% Riesling 42% Sauvignon Blanc. The Riesling component was hand picked and fermented in
stainless steel tanks in order to retain the luscious fruit characters of the variety. The
Sauvignon Blanc component, was hand picked and barrel fermented in French oak. After fermentation
(approximately 1 year) the components were then blended to produce this delicious dessert wine
style.
TASTING NOTES A full straw gold colour with subtle green hues. Enticing aromas of ripe
apple, fig, dried apricot & quince with a whiff of toffee from barrel fermentation. As the nose
opens up further aromas of pineapple, lychee, & guava reveal themselves. The palate is unctuous
and thick showing a profusion of dried fruit, toffee and marmalade characters. As the mid palate
builds these flavours take on more defined features of oak and fruit extract. The finish is long
and rich, oozing with ripe treacly fruit and balanced perfectly with cleansing acidity. A modern
classic.
A well structured wine drinking nicely while young, but with sufficient concentration to warrant
cellaring for up to 15 years.
Perfect accompaniment to clean, crisp desserts, blue cheese, chicken, duck or goose liver patés –
a dessert wine of pure indulgence.
